Ty the Knot has wrapped up, so next month (May), my $20 and up patrons will start getting installments of a new book, featuring a young gay basketball player fresh out of college and now out in the pros. He’s full of swagger and has to learn to be a team player.
The thing is…I don’t have a species for him yet. Sometimes I know the species with a little thought, sometimes it reveals itself in other ways, but this time I thought of a few options and they all felt like they could be interesting in their own way. So I’m gonna let you guys help me decide!
I tried to pick species I hadn’t written about as main characters before. You’ve got three days, go!
If you think there’s another species I’m overlooking, vote in the comments!
I voted Kangaroo.
- Seldom seen in furry fiction.
- Would be interesting to explore the pros and cons of a hopping gait in that particular sport.
- With the character having such powerful legs and the natural ability to jump very high, the story could lean in to the whole 'unfair advantage' arguments often put forward against trans athletes.
Also, (ahem), I hear that 'high butts' are currently a thing in basketball :)
Please choose to write a character of an underrepresented species group. I feel like a lot of main characters tend to be canines or felines.
