May 2023 Dispatch
As you can imagine, April was a tough month to get through. After a week at home, we decided to head out for a road trip out to Colorado to visit family and friends there, and spent two weeks up near the mountains. We went to a concert and a basketball game there, and I kept working on the Patreon stories when I had time. Fortunately both of them are in the later stages, so the stories have some momentum that made it easier to continue them.
We got back home last week and are getting back to work. I’ve managed to get some thoughts about Wolftown 2 together, so that’s started up again, and the Patreon stories are chugging along.
I mentioned last month that we would be doing some more exciting things this year, and here’s the first of them: Starting in June, I’m going to be recording an audiobook for my novel Camouflage, and our plan is to livestream the recording sessions for patrons, probably at the $10+ levels. I’ve been wanting to do this audiobook for a while, and with Hashtag’s help I’ll finally get it set up to share with you.
If there’s other behind-the-scenes stuff you’d like to see, let me know in the comments. Now here’s the copy/paste about recent and upcoming releases:
Books: Nothing new on the audiobook front. Return From Divalia is available everywhere now. If you have read and liked it, writing a review is one of the most helpful things you can do for it, and it’s free! (It doesn’t have to be on Amazon, but that’s still where most people go for their books.)
Other upcoming releases:
The Price of Thorns: Scheduled for summer 2023 (AC). In a fantasy world where stories are woven into the fabric of magic and life, Nivvy the thief is hired by a mysterious woman, and this job will change his life in ways he could never have anticipated.
Squeak Thief: Complete but not scheduled yet, maybe late 2023. A rich mouse hires a fox thief to steal from his own family, but the job quickly spirals out of control.
In progress: Robin Hood fanfic and Ty Game sequel (on Patreon), Wolftown 2, untitled fantasy world project.
Streaming stuff:
I finished Chernobyl (HBO). Ooof. Brilliant but rough to get through. Jared Harris and Stellan Skarsgaard are fantastic and the writing is tremendous, taking us through the aftermath of a catastrophic tragedy and its many, many repercussions.
And I started watching the old Columbo series again, starting with the 1968 movie that spawned the series, "Prescription: Murder.” While the pacing could charitably be called “languid,” the movie itself has some very crisp character work, and Peter Falk’s Lieutenant Columbo, though more aggressive and forward than his series character would become, is mostly fully formed. Interesting note: the first episode of the series was written by Steven Bochco and directed by Steven Spielberg, who would both go on to become so famous as to drop this pretty prestigious series debut off their resumes.
Otherwise, not been watching much as we’ve been traveling and visiting. Looking forward to the new Guardians movie this week though! What is summer bringing to all you?
