Who decided to schedule RAWR on a Monday? Anyway, I’m teaching again this week, so I’ll keep this fairly short. RAWR, if you don’t know, is the Regional Anthropomorphic Writers’ Retreat, a week-long writing workshop that we usually hold in a location somewhere but this year because of, you know, we’re doing remotely. It’s a time I love every year, but it also keeps me really busy.
(Also! If you’re an aspiring furry writer, why not apply to RAWR when applications open later this year for next June? http://rawr.community and we’ll announce it on Twitter.)
I worked hard on The Price of Thorns in May, and was a little dismayed that I only got halfway through it on this revision pass before the workshop started. Then I realized that that half was 90,000 words—basically the equivalent of an entire novel. So that’s probably why it’s going slower than I’d anticipated. I should be able to get it done by the end of June, and then it can go out for a last beta read and to the cover design people before I have to do a proofing pass in (probably) August.
I also kept working on my Patreon stories, Ty The Knot (for $20 and up patrons, updated monthly) and Robin and Son (for $5 patrons and up, updated weekly). The Robin Hood story took sort of a grim turn recently! It’ll be back to sexytimes soon.
Meanwhile, Unfinished Business comes out on July 5th, just after AnthroCon (I think) where FurPlanet will have pre-release copies for sale but which I will not be attending. And the audiobook of The War and the Fox is now live on most audiobook sites, including many non-Amazon ones if that’s your jam. I still haven’t reviewed the audiobook of The Mysterious Affair of Giles, which is done, so I’ll try to get to that this month.
The theme of this month’s streaming is Ugh, really, Peacock? I got recommendations for two new shows that are both very funny and both, unfortunately, on Peacock.
“Killing It” is a show starring Craig Robinson (Darryl from The Office and many other things) being a low-key straight man to the wacky side characters in the show. He plays a bank security guard in Florida trying to raise twenty thousand dollars for a get-rich-quick scheme (but it’s going to work this time) without resorting to crime, like his brother (Rell Battle, who is great) keeps trying to get him into. He meets an eccentric Uber driver (Claudia O’Doherty, who is fantastic) who changes the course of his life. Just—watch the first episode.
“Bust Down” is a show featuring Chris Redd (of SNL), Sam Jay (a writer on SNL), Langston Kerman (Insecure, The Boys), and Jak Knight (a writer on Big Mouth and Black-ish) about…four friends named Chris, Sam, Langston, and Jak who work in a casino and have pointless (but funny) conversations about whatever while also dealing with out-there real world problems. Like when Jak is groped by his (male) boss, or when the woman Sam is cheating on her girlfriend with has a baby and expects Sam to take care of it with her. It’s really funny, and the only comp I can think of for it is Seinfeld.
We also watched “Firestarter” on Peacock and hoo boy, that is a terrible movie. I mean, if you like seeing fire, there’s…a few scenes of it. But there’s just nothing there. Little pyrokinetic girl with psychic parents has trouble controlling her powers because kids at school are mean, then the Big Evil Government agency comes and chases her and her dad around for a while. Stuff blows up. I dunno, my boyfriend told me the book mostly centers around the dad as he’s trying to keep his daughter safe, and this movie made the choice to focus the story on the daughter, but they didn’t bother trying to develop her character at all so it’s just…nothing.
Hope your summer is starting off right!

Hello Kyell, have you seen the movie "Bad Guys" by Dreamworks yet? It's a really good movie, I can"t wait until it comes out on dvd. All the bad guys are animals, the boss is the bid bad wolf, there is a great white shark, a tarantula and other neat animals. It has a neat plot twist at the end. Can you tell us if possible, who will publish "Return From Divalia. Thanks
