March has been a busy month! Kit and I flew down to TFF and had a great time talking to many of you about writing in various panels, and I got to see many more of you at the FurPlanet table. Thanks to everyone who came to panels or the table, and to anyone who said hi. I love that con and it did not disappoint.
One of the highlights was revealing the cover to Squeak Thief, the M/M romance/heist novel coming out this summer. It’s by @apieceofbread.art at Bluesky, and I love how it came out:
And this past weekend we went to LVFC, at least I hope so, because I’m writing this before we leave to post as we’re driving back. We have a couple fun panels planned and won’t be selling, for once, so looking forward to some relaxation.
The rest of March involved wrapping up Dead Right, which is now off to sensitivity reads and reviewers and cover designers and all that good stuff. I got a lot of good feedback on it and I’m excited at how it turned out. If you liked Unfinished Business, I think you’ll be happy to see Jae and Czoltan again.
I’m working on Squeak Thief now, hoping to get it out to beta readers next week so we can have it ready for AnthroCon. And speaking of that…I’ll be at AnthroCon again for the first time since before the pandemic. Will be doing some panels and of course selling at the FurPlanet table, so come to the panels, then come to the FurPlanet table and pick up your copy of Squeak Thief and say hi!
After that I’ll be at ComicCon again, at the usual Sofawolf table. But I won’t be there the whole weekend, so if you’re coming to see me, keep an eye on social media for the times.
Sometime in May or June we will be launching a Kickstarter for the 15th anniversary edition of Out of Position! There’s lots of exciting stuff to come, so keep an eye open for that.
Books:
The Price of Thorns: OUT NOW, buy at Argyll and review at Amazon or GoodReads. In a fantasy world where stories are woven into the fabric of magic and life, Nivvy the thief is hired by a mysterious woman, and this job will change his life in ways he could never have anticipated.
Audiobooks: The Mysterious Affair of Giles is the latest audiobook to hit the stands, as it were. I’m thrilled that you finally get to hear Huskyteer’s lovely narration of this Agatha Christie-like story.
Winter Games is done and available now! Check it out. We’re very happy with this new recording and hope you’ll enjoy rediscovering that old title. As Kit read through it, he kept coming back to me with little bits we’d both forgotten about and enjoyed remembering.
As for the others: We are working on getting Titles and Love Match 2 done and available to you. Both have been recorded and are now under our review to send back to the narrators for minor corrections. And we are working on a Price of Thorns audiobook! Because we have been traveling so much, production has paused, but we’re eager to get going again and hope to have this out early next year.
Other upcoming releases:
Squeak Thief: Summer 2024. A rich mouse hires a fox thief to steal from his own family, but the job quickly spirals out of control. (Novella)
Azure City: 2024-25. A book full of blank pages might be the key to another world, but the more Athos reads, the more he disappears from this one.
Dead Right: Late summer/fall 2024. Jae gets tangled in the life of a ghost activist who endangers his relationships and his future.
In progress: Robin Hood fanfic and Ty Game sequel (on Patreon), untitled fantasy world project.
Streaming stuff:
Resident Alien (Peacock/Netflix): I’m into the second season of this and still really enjoying it! It has a real Northern Exposure vibe, and Alan Tudyk is great in it, but the second season has expanded the world so there’s a lot going on that isn’t just about him.
We haven’t been home really to watch a lot of other stuff. We’re going through the new season of Jellystone and finally getting around to Fionna and Cake, and both of those are fun but we haven’t finished them yet, so I’ll hold off on talking about them.
The cover to Squeak Thief reminds me a lot of the covers to the Burglar series of humor/mysteries by Lawrence Block.
Certainly a plus. I've loved those books for three decades.
